چکیده

Several studies have been made which show some of the influences of photosynthesis in the green layers of fruits upon the development of that fruit (1, 2, 3, 4, 6). During the major part of growth in oranges, lemons, and avocados, chlorophyll does not limit photosynthesis at constant light intensities (5). as might be expected. However, during the period of color change in fruits it would be possible that chlorophyll. or chlorophyll containing cells might become a limiting factor and this phase of growth has not been studlied previously. Citrus fruits are admirably suited for a study of photosynthetic changes during de-greening since the transition in these fruits (loes not necessaril) coincide with the other abrupt changes frequently associated with ripening and color change in other fruits. Changes of composition during this period nmay be very slight. In addition, the peel structure of the citrus fruit makes it possible to obtain relatively small samiiples of external tissue with a mlinimiium of (lamiiage for use in tracer studies.

A biochemical model of photosynthesis for mango leaves: evidence for the effect of fruit on photosynthetic capacity of nearby leaves.

Variations in leaf nitrogen concentration per unit mass (Nm) and per unit area (Na), mass-to-area ratio (Ma), total nonstructural carbohydrates (Ta), and photosynthetic capacity (maximum carboxylation rate, electron transport capacity, rate of phosphate release in triose phosphate utilization and dark respiration rate) were studied within the digitized crowns of two 3-year-old mango trees (Mang...

Estimating the photosynthetic contribution of developing peach {Prunus persica) fruits to their growth and maintenance carbohydrate requirements

CO, exchange rales (CO, evolution) of late-maturing cv. Cai Red peaches, exposed lo different photon flux densities, were simulated from 24 days after flowering {DAF) until harvest by using light and temperature response curves measured on attached fruits in the field at biweekly intervals. The daily patterns of dark respiration rales per unil dry weight indicated their dependence on temperatur...

Seasonal CO2 exchange patterns of developing peach {Prunus persica) fruits in response to temperature, light and CO2 concentration

CO, exchange rates per unit dry weight, measured in the field on attached fruits of the late-maturing Cal Red peach cultivar, at 1200 nmol photons m s ' and in dark, and photosynthetic rates, calculated by the difference between the rates of CO, evolution in light and dark, deelined over the growing season. Caleulated phetosynthetic rates per fruit increased over the season with increasing frui...

Effect of grafting on eggplant leaf gas exchanges under mediterranean greenhouse conditions

Grafting is an easier and faster approach than plant breeding to take advantage of both existing resistant plants, especially wild cultivars, and high-bred cultivars. The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in leaf photosynthetic capacity of a hybrid eggplant Solanum melongena L., cv. Rima (R), widely used in Greece] when grafted on tomato rootstocks known for their resistance to n...

Effect of Petroleum Oil Spray on Photosynthesis and Respiration in Citrus Leaves.

Various formulations of petroleum fractions in the light lubricating oil range provide efficient general insecticides for control of insect pests of citrus and have been used for this purpose for many years. The relatively low cost and high insecticidal efficiency of these materials make it probable that their widespread use in citrus culture will continue for some time. Many types of injury to...
